Just a quick note about net height. Net height should be set around the mens height level.
This year we will again run 6 divisions and an 18 game season broken up into 2 nine game sessions. I am planning to start the season the week of September 26, which will give us ample time in order to complete the first 9 games prior to the Christmas break. Again we are limited to 48 team, 8 per division. Division 1 and 2 will run Mondays, 3 and 4 Tuesdays, and 5 and 6 Thursdays.
So there is no confusion, you must complete the following two things in order for your team to be registered for the season.
- you must register your team online
- go to the My Locker button and follow the instructions (you might need to register yourself if you do not have an account)
- you must pay your teams fees
If you do not complete both of these tasks then your team is not registered. Once these are completed I will activate your team in the division that you registered for.
I will be activating the registration wizard for teams on August 20.
The cost is $600.00 per team and only cash, certified cheques, or money orders are used for payment. (NO personal cheques)
Good luck to all and have fun!!!!
Are you looking to play?? Send your information to me (Click on this Link) and I will put you on the Players Looking to Play List. Make sure to include your name, gender, Contact Information, and any comments that you will like to make and I will post this info for you.
As some of you may or may not know there was a new net rule put into effect by FIVA. This new net rule is stated below.
CONTACT WITH THE NET
Contact with the net by a player is not a fault, unless it interferes with the play.
Players may touch the post, ropes, or any other object outside the antennae, including the net itself, provided that it does not interfere with play.
When the ball is driven into the net, causing it to touch an opponent, no fault is committed.
PLAYER'S FAULTS AT THE NET
A player touches the ball or an opponent in the opponent's space before or during the opponent’s attack hit.
A player interferes with the opponent's play while penetrating into the opponent’s space under the net.
A player’s foot (feet) penetrates completely into the opponent's court.
A player interferes with the opponent’s play by (amongst others):
- touching the top band of the net or the top 80 cm of the antenna during his/her action of playing the ball, or
- taking support from the net simultaneously with playing the ball, or
- creating an advantage over the opponent, or
- making actions which hinder an opponent’s legitimate attempt to play the ball
After playing with the rule in the first three weeks of last year, it has come to my attention that there is some debate whether a fault was committed or not. To actually have the new net rules enforced we would need to have carded officials reffing the game as we have players who even with the old rules in effect would not call themselves on a net foul so it would be almost impossible for them to call themselves using the new rules. So for the remainder of this year we will not be implementing the new net rule and use the previous rule regarding net play. If you touch the net call yourself on it and play stops. We will revisit this rule at the organizational meeting next year.
Make sure to put all nets away after the final game for that evening.
